I'll give this a try before the longer solution posted above. At least on my side it seems to possibly be related to a recent 1802 build of Office ProPlus, our Semi-annual builds are not having the issue. Once I waited for the Quick Steps bar to load at the top of the screen and tried again it worked. Still very unusual, because after reboot it "looped" through the authentication prompts several times without fixing.

It is only after it is working then that person's password expires and gets changed in Active Directory that the issue occurs.

I'm beginning to think this is a Microsoft issue and not just a corrupt user profile. Seems to be after we enabled modern authentication for our tenant and once passwords expire. Well, now we're having this issue as well. I'm still trying to put all of the pieces together to determine a solution for this one. I don't mean to hijack this thread - what I've mentioned above is a workaround. After entering the user credentials and opting to have them remembered, the clients have remained connected. After opening Outlook back up, I was greeted with the basic authentication password prompt. Setting this key to 0 disables Modern Authentication within the Outlook client. After researching Modern Authentication, I read that it uses a token that expires after 90 days, which could have something to do with the issue. Their passwords were set to expire after 90 days, but the intermittent connectivity leads me to believe that this was not a password issue. After creating the new user profile Outlook was able to automatically configure his account. Went through a bunch of stuff with Microsoft support and finally ended up creating a new user profile. I tried creating him a new Outlook profile but it would not automatically configure his O365 account. I tried repairs of his Office as well as a full uninstall/reinstall with no change. The window that popped up was not the same size or position that the password dialogue would be. Clicking on that brought up a window that immediately disappeared without seeing anything on it. Saw the same Needs Password where it would normally say Connected to Exchange. I had the exact same issue on a client system that also started on the same day.
